Private Pilot Ground School Course

Next Ground School

Columbia Flying Club PPL Ground School has concluded. We will announce here future classes at either of our locations when they become available.

Private Pilot Ground School

Columbia Flying Club is offering an 8 week Private Pilot Ground School.

The current PPL Summer 2022 Ground School is scheduled for Monday evenings at 6:00PM in Columbia, CA at the Columbia Airport.  May 9-July 11.

Ground Schools are important because there is so much that the student needs to know. Some students learn better in a classroom environment while engaging with other student pilots. It is also a huge cost savings from having to pay an instructor an hourly rate to learn these subjects.

Plus its just a ton of fun to hang out here at the airport on these nice summer nights! Its great exposure if you are interested in airplanes and learning to fly!

You can join the class at any portion of the course.

Directions to the Classroom

The classroom is located at:

Hangar 6

22473 S Airport Rd

Sonora, CA

95370

However if you put that into your GPS you may get lost!

Continue down S Airport Rd. (Some maps call this side of the airport Columbia, and some call is Sonora.

S Airport Rd is a dead end Rd that takes cars to the south and west side of the airport.

When continuing down S. Airport Rd, you will see the airport on your right side.

Pass a few hangars and a county office building.

There will be a stretch of chain link fence with an open gate and a green sigh that says "Learn to Fly Here".

Enter the airport through that gate, turn left along the airplane taxiway and continue straight and park next to the other cars.

If you have questions, feel free to call. The phone gets turned off at 6pm so don't be late!
